The following are some of the traditional healing methods:
1. Hot Stone Bath: Hot stones are deposited into the chamber of wooden tub, which releases high concentration of minerals, while the heated river water and medicinal herbs added to tub have meditative effect. Versions of these baths are accessible across Bhutan—from farmhouses to luxury hotels and resorts. Hot stone baths heal back aches, sinuses and joint ailments.
2. Hot Steam Bath: Hot steam baths are available at the Traditional Medicine Hospital. Herbs and minerals are immersed in water through which the steam is formed. Sitting in the steam room produces a meditative effect.
3. Hot Spring Therapy: Hot springs—known as Tshachu in Bhutan have been used for centuries by the Bhutanese to cure various ailments ranging from arthritis to body aches and sinuses. The Tshachus have many medicinal properties. The five most well known hot springs in Bhutan are Gasa Tshachu, Chubu Tshachu, Dur Tshachu, Duenmang Tshachu and Gelephu Tshachu.
